Keeping Your Real Tree Fresh
There are some simple, yet extremely important steps you should take when you arrive home with your tree to keep it looking and smelling fresh through Christmas!
Find A Good Spot: Place your tree away from heat, drafts, and direct sunlight. These things can cause the tree to dry out prematurely.
Make A Fresh Cut (IMPORTANT!): Right before putting your tree in water, cut an additional 1/2 inch off the trunk. Your tree’s trunk can sap over in a short amount of time. The sap will prevent the tree from taking in water and will cause the tree to dry out prematurely.
Use The Right Stand: If you have small children or pets, you should opt for a larger stand for stability. A larger stand will also hold more water. We recommend and sell Cinco plastic stands.
Check The Water: Fill the stand with water and check the water level 2 to 3 times a day for the first few days. A fresh-cut tree can drink up to a gallon or more per day at first! Never let the water level fall below the base of the trunk - if this happens, sap will form and prevent the tree from drinking, even if you add more water.
TIP: A pre-cut Fir or Spruce tree will probably not drink as much water as a fresh Pine or Cypress because we display them in water. Keep checking the level multiple times per day, but don’t fret if it is not drinking that much!Use A Preservative (Optional): We recommend and sell Forest Fresh Tablets. Adding sugar, sprite, or anything else to the water is NOT recommended.
Use The Right Lights: Use energy efficient Christmas lights that produce minimum heat. If any lights are broken or damaged, replace them. Always turn your lights off before bed or before leaving the house.
